Vegan-Friendly Food Outlets in Ōtepoti/Dunedin
Happy Cow: Dunedin has it's very own page on this famous, world-wide online guide to vegan-friendly cafes, restaurants, and takeaways. This is the best list we know of, for where to get vegan food in our city. There is even a Happy Cow app!

Dunedin Vegans & Vegetarians Facebook Group
With approximately 3,500 members, this Facebook group is THE best place for information and discussions about all things vegan and vegetarian in our city. It brings together Dunedin vegans, vegetarians, (and those who are considering those lifestyles, or transitioning), providing support, discussion, ideas, information, and networking opportunities of all kinds.

Vegan Parents Group: Ōtepoti/Dunedin
A Facebook-based discussion and support group for vegan parents (or parents interested in veganism) based in or near Ōtepoti/Dunedin, New Zealand. They also occasionally organise get-togethers at local cafes or other places for fellowship with other vegan parents.

‘Vegans in Dunedin’ Meetup.com Group
Loosely affiliated with DŌVeS, the 'Vegans in Dunedin' Meetup.com group is all about bringing people together who are vegan, and those who are interested in exploring veganism and/or plant-based food. It offers an opportunity to hang out with like minded people while also eating some good vegan kai.  They hold lunchtime meetups at Watson's Eatery in the Wall Street Mall on the last Friday of each month, and occasionally organise other get-togethers.

Otago University Vegan Society
For all students at University of Otago and Otago Polytechnic who are interested in veganism, plant-based eating, and animal rights.

Mouthful
Mouthful (formerly known as Plant Based Living Initiative) is a non-profit organisation run by Jono Drew and Anna DeMello, who are based in Dunedin. They are a non-profit website offering an online platform that focuses on food system sustainability. They collaborate with other organizations to share information, advocate for food system change, and undertake policy-related efforts. Plant Strong Living
The team at Plant Strong Living brings education, support, and awareness to the evidence based benefits of a whole food plant based way of eating.  If you would like to organise an event for yourself and your friends, your family, workplace colleagues, local community group or school, promoting a plant based diet, then these are the people to talk to.

The Vegan Society of Aotearoa/New Zealand
The official website of the NZ National Vegan Society; a fantastic resource for vegan Kiwis.

Go Vegan
"Go Vegan is a community-based organisation that informs New Zealand families about the benefits a plant-based lifestyle can offer to family health, the environment, and to animals." A great resource for information on veganism.
Other Animal Advocacy and
Rescue Groups in Ōtepoti/Dunedin
The animals need all the helpers they can get.
All of these groups are usually very glad to get new volunteers and supporters.
Most of them are very grateful for financial donations too.


Gentle Revolution: Bearing Witness
 An animal advocacy group based in Dunedin, which utilises a meditative, peaceful process. Find out more via their Facebook page.
 

New Zealand Animal Law Association - University of Otago
A group for Law students at the University of Otago, who are interested in animal advocacy.

New Zealand Anti-Vivisection Society (NZAVS)
The New Zealand Anti-Vivisection Society (NZAVS), is a non-profit organisation which actively campaigns to abolish animal research, teaching, and testing in NZ.  They occasionally do work in Dunedin. Get involved with their campaigns here.
 
Sea Shepherd New Zealand
Sea Shepherd's mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species. They have a volunteer group in Dunedin. You can sign up to get involved here.

NZ Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NZSPCA)
The SPCA is a charity that helps protect animals who are sick, injured, lost, abused or simply abandoned.  The Otago SPCA on Facebook.
 
Cat Rescue Dunedin
Cat Rescue Dunedin, (formerly known as Animal Rescue Network New Zealand), are committed to reducing the wild-born and stray cat population in our city through a combination of Trap Neuter Release, and adoption. On Facebook.
 
Dog Rescue Dunedin
Dog Rescue Dunedin Charitable Trust rescues dogs from the DCC Animal Control service, provides veterinary care (including desexing), food and home-based foster care and advertises them until they find their 'forever homes'.  On Facebook.
 

Petfix Dunedin
A Charitable Trust run by volunteers and funded by donations, that provides practical assistance for people to aid them in getting their cat or dog desexed (spayed or neutered). On Facebook.

The Wildlife Hospital
The Wildlife Hospital, Dunedin, is based at Otago Polytechnic. It’s the only facility of its kind, in the South Island of New Zealand, home to some of the world’s most unique and most threatened species. They treat a wide variety of animals, including native birds, penguins, seals, and sea lions.  On Facebook.
