Kia ora!

This is the online home of the Dunedin/Ōtepoti Vegan Society (DŌVeS)
DŌVeS are here to provide support and provide fellowship to new, transitioning and seasoned vegans in Ōtepoti/Dunedin and the surrounding area.
We strive to promote veganism to the wider community, and collaborate and assist others with similar aims both in our city, our region and across Aotearoa.

For Animals, For Health & For the Environment

Animals: Respect for animals has never been more important!
Public awareness of the daily suffering continues to grow as new evidence emerges about the atrocious realities of animals exploited for food, clothing, entertainment, research, and everyday household products.

Environment: Awareness is rapidly increasing about the catastrophic impact of animal agriculture and the commercial fishing industry on the environment. Animal agriculture has become the main driving cause of climate change and is known to degrade water quality and use significant amounts of our precious water.

Health: Scientific evidence has consistently proven that consuming animal products is detrimental to our health, as well as proving that adopting a whole food plant-based diet is one of the most valuable things we can do for our health and wellbeing.

Why Veganism?

With knowledge of the above facts (and more) increasing and spreading in the 21st century, veganism has been exploding in popularity. Veganism has been called the fastest growing social justice movement of our era!

Vegans are empowered with the knowledge that by making some personal choices, they are actively solving some of the most immense, serious, and urgent crises the world is currently facing.

As well as changing the world, vegans discover and enjoy the personal benefits of this abundant, joyful, and healthy way of eating and being. The only complaint we hear from vegans, is that they didn't transition to veganism sooner!

Join the DŌVeS Whānau and Get Involved

Anyone can come to our events, get in touch with us, or engage on our social media. We do not have 'membership' or charge a fee. Some of our events may be ticketed, or a koha (donation) may be requested to help us cover costs of the venue and/or food/entertainment.

If you are keen to come help our small team of organisers (help is always needed!), then please get in touch, and we can discuss how you can contribute to the important work we do - for animals, for health and for the planet!
