World Vegan Day Otepoti/Dunedin 2017
The Dunedin/Ōtepoti Vegan Society (DOVeS) and friends are hosting a potluck feast on Wednesday the 1st of November in celebration of World Vegan Day.
Being vegan is awesome. It’s a powerful but easy lifestyle choice that is good for animals, good for the planet, and even good for our health. We love being vegan, and think it’s something worth celebrating!
This is the third year we've run this event, and it just keeps getting bigger and better every year. We welcome anyone and everyone to come and join us on our special day.
The event will be in the Age Concern Otago building at No. 9 The Octagon from 5:30pm - 7:30pm, and probably later if people are keen... (See photo below for location of Age Concern).
We're having a 'vegan potluck feast', so please bring some vegan food to share, and invite your friends and family, and join in the fun.
We also have an absolutely AMAZING raffle as well as spot prizes and giveaways. The total value of the prizes is almost $2,000!!! Follow this link to check them all out.
There will also be a vegan barbecue outside the venue from 5pm, with delicious vegan sausages, burger patties, and more available for koha/donation. Stop by and grab a vegan saussie on your way home from work! Then pop inside and see what it's all about.
There will be stalls run by local animal advocacy groups including NZAVS, OSAATS, and ARNNZ, along with ocean conservation organisation, Sea Shepherd.
Local vegan-friendly businesses, including Modaks Espresso, Let Them Eat Vegan, and Liquid Assets Juice Bar, will be giving away free samples of their delicious vegan food.
There will be information available to check out, from other local vegan-friendly businesses and organisations.
There will be a children's Art Station, where kids can do some colouring in, or create their own original work.
There will be awesome live music by: Dance Dance Insurrection; Laney Blue; Darren, Sophie, and Oscar; Spinster; The Generators; and Duke & Mike.
- Yourself, your friends, and your family. All welcome. Vegan and non-vegan alike.
- Some money for the raffle, the barbecue, and the stalls.
- Your own drink/s of choice. (No alcohol please).
- Vegan Food! Please bring a vegan dish to share.
If you’re unsure what to bring, there are many good websites with easy vegan recipes. But vegan food doesn't have to be fancy: it can be as simple as tossing together a fresh fruit salad, or bringing a bowl of hummus with chips or a platter of crunchy vegetables for dipping. But even if you really can't bring a dish, please come along regardless. Your company is what’s important!
To find out about veganism and what foods are and aren't vegan, check out the About Veganism page on our website.
There will be no cooking facilities, so please bring your food already heated, or bring something that can be served cold. The food will be placed on a central table for people to share.
If you have any special dietary requirements, (apart from being vegan of course!) you are welcome to bring your own food, as well as, or instead of, food for sharing.
It's going to be a great night. See you there! :-)
